RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

The Ho Jo used to be a Holiday Inn, and before that it was a Ramada Inn. Who knows what it will be tomorrow.
My take on it, is that the NWS never put out any kind of warning at all, so of COURSE it never really happened. Everyone in my neighborhood is just imagining everything. And we can't POSSIBLY know what a tornado looks like if we are not trained meteorologists. JMO
You're right, they wouldn't want to have to admit that they dropped the ball on this one and people could have been hurt or killed because they didn't warn anyone.
BTW- I wasn't questioning what you saw or what happened when I posted about the NWS. I was trying to point out their flaw. :B

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

Spent some time with a chainsaw last night cutting up my neighbors tree. It had to be dropped the rest of the way after half of it went down last Thursday when a tornado went over our house. You may have seen some of the damage on TV.
I'll have at least a couple of of cords of wood by the time it dries and I get it split. This tree was almost 3' in diameter. Sure am glad me neighbor hired a tree service to cut the large stuff into pieces. The saw I'm using not be able to cut the large stuff up. Any body know how honey locust burns?
According to the NWS website, there wasn't a tornado in your area Thursday. If you're sure that's what it was (and not just the derecho winds) nobody reported it to anyone. With a tree that large coming down (and the rest of the damage Joe's gotten calls about) I would think it would be a tornado that maybe nobody reported to the NWS.

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

We got a very nice note today from Silver Springs campground in reference to TORNADO WEEKEND (June 6th-8th). It was their KIDS WEEKEND and they had lots of fun things planned that they were not able to complete or do so they will be doing them during their children's weekend next year they said. Attached to the note was a certificate for a free night of camping during their kids weekend next year. They said that things have returned to "normal" at the campground and they were thankful that no one was hurt during the tornado. Chris was very disappointed when I told him we were leaving that day because he was participating in their version of FEAR FACTOR. He seemed happy to know that NOBODY was able to finish. I am still so very thankful that we had the presence of mind enough to hit the road when we did. So, Joe and I were talking to someone and we realized this was our 3rd near miss with a tornado. If I remember right we counted the one that hit by our house. We had 3 feet of water in the basement a few years ago and were in the process of cleaning that up when Joe's parents let us know there was a tornado on the ground behind our house. It was not very big and it was a good couple miles away, but it was there and we could see it. We took cover and all was well. Then the following year, camping with our friend Lori at Merry Mac's Campin' we were in storms and they had a tornado warning. We found out later there were tornadoes on the ground less than a mile from the campground. Now this year. I think we've gotten very lucky.

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

Okay, so I don't really understand this whole Brett thing. Is it that he wants to come back and the Packers have said no, or is it just a rumor, or what? 17 years is a long time in the football world, and I'm sure he was hoping to end his career with at least a trip to the Super Bowl if not a win, shoot.... any star player would, but it's not always possible. Why, after publicly announcing his retirement would he reconsider? And if it is just a rumor, why would anyone want to make him look like a chump like this?

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

So, southcentral Wisconsin again gets rocked by severe weather. At least this time there were not tornado warnings everywhere (and we weren't camping). There was a confirmed tornado near Markesan though and they never even issued a warning on that! The shelf cloud that came through at the leading edge of the storms was very ominous! The clouds were swirling like they didn't know where to go!

RE: Wisconsin end of summer camping trip

Uppercrust,
You stated "Lucky for our dogs, we really weren't looking for an opinion from you."
The boy that got bitten wasn't looking to get bitten either.
I get a pretty good sense for your attitude here. I have found that most people with aggressive animals tend to get very defensive and make excuses. (ie. It wasn't the dogs fault)
From the other posting, it looks like I am not the only person with the opinion there is a problem here.
My intent was not to ruffle your feathers, rather to put the thought in your head that you need to do something with your dogs behavior before someone chooses to take legal action against you.
It is obviously your choice how you handle this situation.
As you stated, I will move on. Thank you for the offer to camp with your group, but I think I will pass. Not the attitudes I am looking to camp with.
Good luck with your aggressive dog.
I just wanted to drop this and move on, but since "from the other posting" means my post, I feel the need to set something strait. Uppercrust is a close friend of mine. My reply to your post was in concern for them only, not to encourage you. Diesel has been getting obedience training and to tell you the truth, he has made great progress in that training. My friend was frustrated because they have been working so hard with him and chose to come to friends to vent. They were not looking for a stranger to preach to them about it. As far as our attitudes are concerned, the people on this thread are some of the greatest people I have ever met in my life, we are a fun loving, very tight knit group and are very welcoming (typically) to newcomers. I kind of take exception to you suggesting otherwise. Yes, Uppercrust got defensive of your posts because they HAVE been working hard to correct Diesel's behavior and you seemed to be implying that they just don't care or that they just let him do whatever he wants. I would get defensive too if a stranger were to come in and didn't know the WHOLE story but posted as if they did .

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I personally want to thank you Richard and Sue. I believe I speak for everyone who has followed Old Fella's story when I say that it felt like Old Fella belonged to all of us. The story started here with us. You filled our days and hearts with tales of an old stray who got not only two of the most loving people on earth to take care of his day to day needs and belly rub requests, but also the love and support of a whole online community. The legacy of Old Fella WILL go on in the hearts and minds of these people for a long time. We came to think of Old Fella as our own dog vicariously through your posts and stray animals across the country have gotten new loving homes due to you and OUR Fella. We will definitely miss the daily stories and updates of his newest adventures. I want to thank you for taking such good care of Fella in his last years on this earth. He was unwanted and uncared for for so long until you came along. Without you, he probably wouldn;t have made it this long and he would not have as many of us out here missing and mourning him. You did what you could for him and then his time came. I can tell you he lived his last years and months the luckiest dog ever. You and your wife are very special people. God Bless!
BTW: Can you post the very first picture of Old Fella along with the very last picture? I would love to see the two together.

RE: Wisconsin end of summer camping trip

Uppercrust,
I have been following the WI rally forums for a while. I will soon try to attend when time allows.
I love dogs and we travel with ours very often. One thing I have noticed is that you have a dog with aggression issues. I must say, if another person gets bitten by your dog and chooses to report it to the authorities, you may be liable for much more than doctor bills.
You have outlined your dogs aggressive behavior in these forum pages for a long time. It does not appear that they have improved. If the lady whose son was bitten this weekend knew the extent of your dogs behavior problems, it may not have been brushed off with simply checking your dog was current on vaccinations.
I understand you love your dog very much, but a campground is not a good place for an aggressive dog.
Those of us who travel with our dogs need to be extra careful. This is an accident chasing / lawsuit happy society and it seems to me you are looking for trouble. An attorney could have a field day with your own postings where you talk about other times your dog has bitten or been aggressive toward people.
Unfortunately I have to agree here Michelle. Having met Diesel and spent time with him, I love him to death, however, with his habit of biting males, I am fearful for you guys. Any person that he might bite in the future would have the capability of suing you for a lot of money, PLUS, if that were to happen, Diesel would have to be put down under state law. All they would have to do is report it to the campground or heaven forbid the person needs medical attention, then the police would get involved, and then you would have some major trouble. I am only adding to this conversation because as you know, I care about you and I care about Diesel and I would hate to see anything happen to him.

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally - October 10th - 12th.

More storms coming through.. Stay dry everyone.
We took off Thursday for Hartman Creek SP. A total of 8 families; us, a Class C, a pop-up and 5 tenters. The Ranger comes thru on Friday morning and warns us of severe weather moving in: high winds and 2 - 3 inches of rain, along with info that it's going to rain all day Saturday. All the tenters packed up and headed home. Seeing that we only really knew those in tents, we took off too. Needless to say the Ranger and weatherman were a little off!!! Some went back up today, but with the price of gas we decided to stay home instead of sticking another $100 in the tank. Took the kids to see "WALL E" and went out for pizza.
Joe went to a friend's cabin and Chris went with him. Guess what I did with the other 3 kids? Went to see WALL.E!!!!!!!!
